SPWV Primary Programs

Just for you (JFY)

The program consist of 5 sessions: the evaluation session, turnaround session, network sessions, progress session, and congratulation session.

1. Evaluating Session: Evaluating sessions is the 1st step to Just for You (JFY) program. The Just for You (JFY) Life Skill Mentor will meet with the single parent one on one once a week for the first two weeks on Mondays (Each parent will have their specific day of the week). The family will then create a Family Vision Statement using their Family Intake Assessment of their strengths and weaknesses.

2. Turnaround Sessions: This session is the 2nd step of Just for You (JFY) program. This meeting will be conducted once a week for following two weeks The single parent will create 1-3 6 month short-term goals being a direct correlation to their Family Vision Statement in the 1st session. They will work on these goals continuously for the next four months.

3. Networking Session: This session is the 3rd session. The single parents work on their goal continuously for the next four months using our network resources and computer labs.

4. Progress Session: The Just for You (JFY) Case Worker will meet with the single parent. Single Parent will meet twice a month on Mondays (once every two weeks) for the 5th month with the Just for You (JFY) Case Worker. At this point, we will discuss the progress of the single parent’s goal and review ways that Just for You (JFY) Case Worker can help them complete their goals.

5. Congratulation/Recognition Session: Just for You (JFY) Case Worker will take that single parent and child (ren) out to eat with cost being paid by Single Parents with Voices Inc. (SPWV). There will be a ceremony given by Single Parents with Voices (SPWV) where the parent would get a certificate of “Achievement”. The ceremony will be the third Saturday of every 7th month of the program.

children tutoring children (CTC)

The Children Tutoring Children (CTC) will be a six week program consisting of five sessions.

1. Relationship Builder Session

The Relationship Builder Session will last one week. The tutor and tutoree will meet twice this week on Monday and Tuesday to build a relationship and get to know each other strengths

2. Academic Need Session

The Academic Need Session will last one week. The tutor and tutoree will meet twice a week in the same week of the relationship builder session on Wednesday and Thursday. These two days they will set 1-3 academic goals for the tutoree to complete by the end of the six weeks

3. Confidence session

The second, third, and fourth week on Mondays they will work on these goals together as a team. Each young artist will have their specific day of the week. The Children Tutoring Children (CTC) is built off a relationship of two children with a clear understanding that they are both leaders and neither of them is followers of the Children Tutoring Children (CTC) program.

4. Review session

The fifth week the tutor and tutoree will meet with an SPWV staff member on Monday to see what we can do to help them with their progress if they are in need of help. The tutor and tutoree will finish the week out continuing completing their goals.

5. Accomplishment session

After they completed their goals and finished the program successfully, the tutoree will complete a 2 page essay stating their accomplishments and how it changed their life academically. There will be a ceremony given by Single Parent with Voices Inc. for the tutor and tutoree. The tutoree will receive a certificate of achievement, and the tutor will receive a certificate for volunteering. The tutoree will read the essay at the ceremony. The tutor will receive a $25.00 gift certificate for their volunteer services.

advocacy program

There will be one Parent Advocate (PEP Credentials) available through SPWV for all single parent in the Capital Region for CSE meeting, treatment meeting, service provider meeting, school meeting, or to help attain mental health resources or services. Single Parents with Voices Inc. only has one Parent Advocate; therefore if there is an issue attending meetings due to scheduling, SPWV will outsource to provide the single parent with a parent advocate.

music to soul (MTS)

The Music to Soul consists of four music therapy sessions. The Music to Soul program will help children explore other avenues to expressing their emotions other than violence. The music Mentors will access emotional well-being, physical health, social functioning, communication abilities, and cognitive skills through music Mentoring. The Music to Soul program will be based on the children’s emotional needs using music improvisation, receptive music listening, song writing, lyric creating, and beat creating. The Music to Soul Program will work closely with behavioral and emotional residential and out-patient facilities that house children under 18 years old for program volunteers.

1. My Voice Session: My Voice Session is the 1st step to Music to Soul Program. The Music to Soul Mentor will meet with the young artist one on one once for the next four weeks on Mondays (Each young artist will have their specific day of the week). The young artist will create lyrics or poetry relating to their emotions or thoughts. The lyrics will be written on paper by the youth.

2. Beat Consultation: This session is the 2nd step of Music to Soul Program. The Beat Mentor will meet with the young artist one on one once for the next four weeks on Mondays (Each young artist will have their specific day of the week). The Beat Mentor will guide the young artist in finding the right rhythm and beat for his/ her emotional lyrics.

3. Studio Session: This session is the 3rd session. The Studion session is for the next three months. The young artist will utilize the studio equipment to make a cohesiveness artistic song that brings everything all together. The Music to Soul Mentor and the Beat Mentor will continue to work closely with the young artist during the studio session. Each young artist will have their specific day of the week to utilize the studio.

4. Recording Session: The Recording Session is the last month. The child, Music to Soul Mentor and the Beat Mentor will record the song or poetry on a DVD. They will use the next three weeks to critique the song or poetry that was created by the young artist. They can also use the three weeks to put together a performance for the Performance Session.

5. Performance Session: The artist will perform their work at the Just for You (JFY) ceremony. The ceremnoy will be the third Saturday of every 7th month of the program.

tati’s wash and fold

Let Tati complete a task on the "To Do List" and allow you some time to your self or enjoy time with friends

Tati Wash & Fold was created by a talented young lady that just love washing and folding cloths. This activity brings her happiness and joy. It may sound weird but washing, drying, and folding clothes are her safety blanket and help her feel safe. As her mother, I want to keep her safe and see her happy. The great thing about Tati's Wash & Fold, we will pick up the cloths from your apartment. Tati Wash & Fold will wash, dry , and fold the cloths. The services will be available Saturdays and Sundays. Pick ups will be done on Fridays between 10 am and 6 pm. Tati Wash & Fold can accept 6 clients for Saturday and 6 Clients for Sunday. Tati Wash & Fold is on a first come basis. Once Tati Wash & Fold grow we will be able to serve more clients. The fee includes one load of White and one load of colored cloths (which is equivalent to two loads per bag). If you have two colored loads or two white loads it will be the same fee. Tati Wash & Fold will provide the Laundry Detergent and Dryer Wipes (The Dryer Wipes is only by request). If the client is allergic to any Laundry Detergent or bleach please advise Tati's Wash & Fold so we can use a nonallergic Laundry Detergent. Tati Wash & Fold will use bleach on White clothing unless the client advises us not to.

Upcoming SPWV programs

SPWV Monthly Dinner o SPWV will be providing a full cooked full course meal once a month to all single parents and children involved in all the SPWV programs. o SPWV will fund the Monthly Dinners.

CTC Movie Night

SPWV will be having movie night once a month for the children involved in the Children Tutoring Children (CTC) program. o SPWV will fund the Movie Nights.

JFY Single Parents Night Out o SPWV will have a single parents’ night out the first Saturday of every other month for the single parents involved in the Just for You (JFY) Program.

The choice of event for single parents’ night out will be discussed and decided by the single parents. This event is a non-alcoholic event. o SPWV will fund the event chosen by the single parents.

Single Parents with Voice Fundraiser Tournament

All single parents and children involved in the Single Parent with Voice programs will come up with a fundraising activity per family for the second week of every other month (Monday through Friday) to promote and fund SPWV programs o The fundraiser that earns the most funds will receive an award plaque to put on the fundraiser wall located in the conference on the wall. The award plague will be placed chronologically on the wall by date. o Single Parents with Voices will fund the supplies for the Fundraising Tournament.
